Lucknow -- The good electoral days for Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have not worn off as the party continued its winning streak today by wresting two assembly seats from arch rival Samajwadi Party (SP).
In the three assembly seats that went to polls on Friday, BSP won two assembly seats- Farrukhabad and Swar Tanda, while SP managed to retain Gunnaur assembly seat, which was vacated by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav as he had also won from Bharthana during the recent Assembly elections.
Samajwadi Party, which lost power in the last Assembly elections, had more bad news as the party not only lost the two seats to BSP but also failed to take the second position in the votes polled.
State Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra, representing the BSP won the Farrukhabad seat defeating his nearest Congress rival Vijai Singh by over 14,500 votes.
In Swar Tanda Assembly seat, BSP candidate Kazim Ali Khan, who left SP to join Mayawati‘s party, defeated his nearest BJP rival by over 49,000 votes.
The only consolation for the SP was its candidate, Pradeep Yadav, winning the Gunnaur assembly seat.
He defeated his nearest BSP rival by 13, 500 votes. (ANI)
