Karachi -- Former Pakistan cricketers - Javed Miandad, Moin Khan, Intikhab Alam and Sarfraz Nawaz have criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over its decision to appoint Australian Geoff Lawson as the new coach of the Pakistan cricket team.
Accusing the PCB of giving into player power, the Daily Times quoted Sarfraz, as saying that there were many big names in Pakistan cricket who could have proved to be better choices, and added that Lawson did not have any international coaching experience.
He threatened to file a case against the PCB for appointing a foreigner as the national coach and for neglecting talented former Pakistani Test cricketers.
Miandad who has coached Pakistan thrice after a glorious international career of about two decades, said a foreign coach could not be as patriotic as a Pakistani coach.
"Even if you want to hire a foreigner, then why not do it on merit? If merit is the benchmark then Dav Whatmore knows sub-continental teams better than Lawson," Miandad said.
Former wicketkeeper Moin Khan said PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf was squarely responsible for this appointment.
"He should have taken a correct decision by appointing a former Pakistani cricketer as the coach of the national team," said Moin.
He demanded Ashrafâs resignation for failing to run the board in a professional manner. (ANI)
