Google to modify search ranking algorithms

Acknowledging its shortcoming, Google has lately taken the initiative to change its search ranking algorithms.

This decision has been taken by the Internet search giant, to encourage the websites with original contents and information in achieving a higher ranking, in Google search results.

Aim is to raise the rankings of high quality websites
In an announcement made by Google on Tuesday, it said that the main purpose behind the decision of modifying the search ranking algorithms was to raise the rankings of high-quality websites.

The decision was basically taken after the heightened criticism on the falling search results of Google, which have continued to decline for a long time, due to the lower ranking of the high quality websites.

This change can also be seen as a recognition by Google and its admission that gaming industry had increasingly succeeded in declining the quality of the results on the search engine and thus, giving higher ranking to less relevant sites as compared to the significant sites related to the search.

Nearly 12 per cent websites to be affected by the change
As per the information disclosed by Google, this step will make major modifications in the search ranking algorithms, and around 12 percent of search queries will presumably be influenced by this change.

Though no disclosure about the websites whose rankings will be lowered down, is made by Google; however, closed sources and search optimization professionals presume the drop in ranks to be faced by Demand Media's eHow and other websites famous by the name of 'content farms’, in near future.

Commenting on the changes made by Google and the present situation, Danny Sullivan, editor in chief of a popular technology blog, ‘Search Engine Land’ said, "more substantial and authoritative answers than the short summaries from websites that have built their businesses on giving bites and chunks of information."
