New applications added to Facebook

Keeping the interests of the people in mind and increasing the convenience for its users, Facebook Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg introduced new ways of using the social network.

This feature will help the users to share music, movies, TV shows, news and some daily activities such as cooking and exercising.

Feature to go through the history of the songs earlier played
Zuckerberg unveiled the new feature while speaking at the F8 developers’ conference in San Francisco.

He informed that the new features will have partners such as Spotify Inc., Hulu LLC and Rdio Inc.

The service will also help the users in going through the history of the songs earlier played or listened to.

Calling the new feature as a means of self expression, Zuckerberg said, “Being able to click on someone’s music and play it is a great experience.

"Knowing that you helped a friend discover something new and that they liked your taste in music and that you have that in common is awesome.”

Aims to entice the users
The main purpose of Facebook in introducing these features is to arouse the interest of the users and entice them to spend more and more time on the site.

It also seems in a mood to compete with its rivals Apple Inc. and Google Inc., which provide video and music services to their users.

Commenting on this new addition to Facebook, Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Gartner Inc. said, "They’re looking to expand this beyond the social network into a core platform tying together all of user experiences.

"It’s now about your music, your movies, and what you’re reading. It’s the ability to share more information and to do it in a streamlined manner and to make sure that people are spending more time on Facebook.”

‘Timeline’ to highlight the important posts
Apart from this, Zuckerberg also introduced some other tools which will help the Facebook users to the display of images and highlight the important posts in his or her profile.

Zuckerberg added that this new feature called as Timeline will show photos, status updates and locations in a more graphical format.

This feature will also have the privacy tools to help the users in privacy settings.

With the help of this feature, users can display various activities and preferences in media such as music, TV shows and movies.

The best part is that Timeline works well on desktop personal computers as well as mobile devices.

Inclusion of Netflix for sharing videos
This new application will also have Netflix Inc. for sharing videos.

However, as per the information by the Netflix CEO, this service may not be available in the U.S. during the initial phase due to the present privacy laws.

Lifestyle applications for sharing information about daily activities
The applications which will help the users in sharing information about activities such as jogging or cooking are called lifestyle applications.

Now, Facebook will also have another new feature which will display content from providers such as News Corp., USA Today and Yahoo! Inc.

A new way of showing one’s likings on Facebook was also declared and it will be introduced soon.

There will also be new buttons by which users will be able to tell other users on the web that they have “reviewed” or “watched” something.
