Sarah Palin emails to be made public

The state of Alaska has announced that it will release around 24,000 pages of emails written by and sent to Sarah Palin during her time as governor. She had quit the post 2 years ago quite unexpectedly.

The mails are expected to throw light on how the probable Republican candidate for the post of president ran her office.

Sarah Palin mails
The print outs of mails will be available to those who pay $725 along with hundreds of dollars more in delivery fees.

Several reporters have gathered at the state capital, Juneau to get their hands on the documents as soon as possible.

According to some reports, at least two leading dailies, Washington Post and The New York Times plan to scan the papers and post the e-mails on their web sites so that readers can comment on them.

The documents contained in six cartons will have the e-mails from the official account of the then governor and also from two other private Yahoo accounts that Sarah Palin used as the governor.

The use of private e-mail accounts has been criticized by some experts as they believe that it will violate the open-records law of the state.

Out of the total e-mails, some 24,000 pages have been withheld as the state attorneys felt that these contained privileged information.

Meanwhile, the MSNBC cable TV network is also working with data research firm, Crivella West, to come up with searchable database online.

Mails could provide fuel to Palin critics
According to some critics, the mails can reveal a pattern of unprofessional conduct, settling scores with perceived enemies, and using state resources for personal gain.

Political activist and journalist, Andree Mcleod had requested the release of the e-mails for the first time in 2008 shortly after Palin was chosen as the vice prudential candidate by the Republican presidential candidate, John McCaine.

According to Alaska legislative report released in October 2008, Palin had abused her power to seek revenge from a state trooper who was married to her sister.

The attorney for the Palin family in Alaska was not immediately available for comments but Sarah Palin has commented on the issue during a Fox News interview saying, “I think every rock in the Palin household that could ever be kicked over and uncovered anything, it’s already been kicked over. I don’t think there is anything private in our family now.”

She said that some of the mails were, “obviously weren’t meant for public consumption.”
