X-Men: First Class sells $120 million worth tickets in opening weekend

Continuing the success of the ‘X-Men’ franchise, the fifth movie in the series titled ‘X-Men: First Class’, is reigning the global box office with record number of tickets being sold in its opening week.
20th Century Fox, the distributor of the movie has disclosed that the latest in the ‘X-Men’ series, has done a great opening business with tickets of more then $120 million worth being sold till Sunday.
The top grosser opened to sales worth $56 million in the U.S. and Canada, which has been in sync with the industry predictions for the blockbuster series.
The movie has done well overseas too, netting $64 million from over 74 markets, including 30 new ones like Britain, France, Mexico and Brazil, which have also contributed mainly to the profits.
Brand new chapter of the franchise
The USP of the fifth movie in the series that costs $160 million is that the story of how these people became mutant superheroes.
"We have successfully launched a brand new chapter of this franchise," said Chris Aronson, senior vice president for domestic distribution at the News Corp unit.
Among the cast of the movie are acclaimed actors James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Kevin Bacon and Michael Fassbender.
The single release of the week has shoved all the other top grossing movies one place lower, to nest itself at the number one position.
Box office scenario
Some of the other movies that are reigning the box office are, ‘The Hangover: Part II’ has earned $ 186.9 million in 10 days past its release.
This was followed by ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ that earned $24.3 million in its second week and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ that grossed $18 million in its third week.
The Johnny Depp movie has outnumbered all other movies globally and has netted almost $600 million from overseas trade till now.
Universal Pictures' non-sequel movie ‘Bridesmaids’ has also been a good grosser this weekend and has netted $12.1 million in its fourth weekend, taking its total profits to $107.3 million.
