'American Idol' title won by Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery won the title of "American Idol" and became the show’s 10th champ on Wednesday after fans picked him as the best out of all contestants.

Scotty McCreery chose to sing "I Love You This Big" on the final day of the contest.

Youngest ever finalist of ‘American Idol’

As per the choice of the fans, Scotty McCreery will also become the next Nashville superstar. On the last day of the contest, 16 year old Lauren Alaina was defeated by McCreery aged 17. This was the youngest ever finale of the show.

Expressing happiness over his grand success, a stunned McCreery said, "Never in my wildest dreams.” "I Love You This Big," was the first song sung singly by McCreery.

The number of votes generated by the fans on the finale day made a record of the highest numbers in ‘Idol’ history. Together, the two singers generated 122.4 million votes on the big day.

Continuing the past trend, McCreery's victory marks the fourth male in a row to win the Fox TV contest. ‘American Idol’ title was won by Jordin Sparks, a female back in 2007.

A medley performed at the end of the show

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood who are two of the four female winners till now have proved their talent in their fields and enjoying the most successful recording careers.

At the end of the season, "Idol" rolled out a humongous variety show which included Steven Tyler who sang "Dream On" and Jennifer Lopez to strut while husband Marc Anthony sang. The season finale also showcased some famous stars such as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. "Idol" contestants were also brought back on stage on the final day of the show.

During the show, Carrie Underwood performed with Judas Priest and Jacob Lusk was paired with gospel star Kirk Franklin. At the end, a medley was performed by the ‘Idol’ men for Tom Jones on "It's Not Unusual."
