‘Two and a Half Men’ star Charlie Sheen is working really hard to get public support these days, and latest in the list of his good deeds is a bipolar awareness walk that he organized in Toronto on Friday.
Reportedly, a spontaneous decision was taken by the sitcom star to help raise money for helping people fighting the disorder and so he took to his Twitter account and asked his fans to come forward and join his cause.
“Stop the Stigma!! Bipolar Awareness Walk!! Please join me at 6pm at the Ritz tonight! Raise money! Raise Awareness! #BIPOLAR #BIWINNING!” he posted on his Twitter account.
His representative, Larry Solters, said, “Charlie wants to bring awareness to bipolar and he has lined up with OBAD (The Organization for Bipolar Affective Disorders) to do this walk. And it was totally his idea.”
Fans support Charlie
After hearing the appeal for the awareness walk, fans were more than willing to join him and more than 200 people greeted him at the said venue.
He walked with his fans to Massey Hall where he was supposed to perform later in the night, as part of his ongoing ‘Violent Torpedo of Truth’ tour.
The troubled star who was recently thrown out from his hit show, said that he knew bipolar was not a disease, but a disorder and as it was psychiatric, hence he would be donating all the money collected through the walk to the OBAD.
OBAD has mixed reactions on Sheen’s noble deed
Meanwhile, saying that he was not behind the drive, OBAD Executive director, Kai Korvela said that he was quite surprised by Sheen’s bipolar awareness walk move.
"I think that any kind of press about the awareness of bipolar disorder and the support of an agency is probably a good thing. ... If we are the recipients of donations and matching donations by Charlie Sheen, we would be more than willing to take it so that we can do our work in the community,” he concluded.
Tabloids reported that his awareness walk came after actress Catherina Zeta Jones, was treated for the disorder earlier this week.
