Troubled nuclear plant in Japan exceeds radiation norms after quake

Affected by the major tremor followed by tsunami, Japan’s nuclear plant pose a toxic disaster risk. The nuclear plant has already surpassed its permissible radiation emission limits, but the experts advise to exercise calm and patience, as no major risk is expected.

In a recent development on the quake-aftermath, Japanese authorities confirmed that the radiations levels at the troubled nuclear plant have exceeded its legal limits.

Authorities underlined that the ongoing troubles, caused by the Friday’s colossal quake and tsunami, have upset nuclear reactors, resulting in an increase in radiation levels.

Meanwhile, Naoki Kumagai, Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency’s official, maintained that as per the legal norms, the radiation levels at Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant have indeed exceeded, but no exaggerated panic is needed on this account, he said.

Had the reactors been on the brink of meltdown, the levels would have been apparently higher, Kumagai explained, pacifying the terrified citizens.

Dousing seawater on reactors, an eleventh hour resort
In a bid to ward off a nuclear reactor meltdown at the Fukushima's No. 1 power plant, around 140 miles north of Tokyo, officials resorted to a last-minute effort of dousing seawater to cool the reactor core.

Blacked-out nuclear reactors are somehow cooled down by Tokyo Electric Power Co., the owner of the Fukushima No. 1 power plant.

Intruding seawater into the nuclear plants, caused by Friday’s 9.0 magnitude earthquake, have nearly smashed the diesel generators that provide current for circulating pumps.

An 8.9 magnitude earthquake followed by tsunami, which hit the northeastern Japan, has heavily damaged six nuclear reactors of the country.

But,out of six reactors, risk is measured much higher at two reactors located at Dai-ichi, where one blast took place on Saturday, while a second may occur very soon.
