Lahore : To avoid further humiliation in international cricketing circles, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to hold fresh dope tests for fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif prior to the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.
Zakir Khan, the PCB's Director for Cricket Operations, was quoted by The Nation as saying that all members of the national team would be dope tested as per the anti-doping regulations of WADA.
Both Shoaib and Asif are in the 30-member preliminary squad for the Twenty20 World Cup, and are expected to be named in the final 15-man squad for the September tourney.
"We have kept in mind the recent problems faced by Shoaib and Asif on this front and we are considering having fresh dope tests on the selected players and reserves for the Twenty20 tournament," Khan said.
"The issue (of dope testing) could be discussed at the ad-hoc committee meeting of the board on July 16 in Karachi," he added. (ANI)
