Pioneering the mom’s who rock movement, Joy Rose and Housewives on Prozac are garnering national attention. Recently featured on CNN (11/19/04) amd in the October 14 edition of People Magazine, ....

When Joy Rose, founder and lead singer of the all-female band Housewives on Prozac was diagnosed with lupus in 1994, which subsequently led to a kidney transplant, the New York suburban mother of four knew it was time for a radical change. As a former singer and performer in the 1980’s, Rose always knew music was her passion. More than a decade later, music would become her saving grace that helped heal her body, mind and spirit. It was during her grave illness, while caring for four young children that Rose had an epiphany -- music was to be the creative outlet she was desperately seeking. Rose thought if she was feeling like this, there must be other women feeling a certain amount of desperation as well in their own lives.

In 1997, Rose formed Housewives on Prozac along with six diverse female musicians, and suddenly this former desperate housewife, became a pioneer for mothers and housewives everywhere, singing about the honest realties of life with domestically intriguing themes and original songs such as “Fuzzy Slippers”, “Chemotherapy,”“ Eat your Damn Spaghetti,” “Baby Slave’, and “I Don’t Think Like My Mom Anymore.”

Housewives on Prozac’s latest CD release, “I Broke My Arm Christmas Shopping at the Mall & others,” is the bands first commercial release and is available at such retailers as Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Barnes and Nobles, J & R Music and Virgin Records. Housewives have two live album releases to their credit; “No Prescription Required” and “HOP LIVE!” as well as two original rock musicals: “Shut Up And Drive” and “The Housewife’s Lament.”

Donning pink spandex, feathers and lots of big hair, the members of Housewives on Prozac struggle with the everyday real life scenarios of balancing family and work. Joining Joy Rose in Housewives on Prozac are fellow rocker’s Kyle Ann Burtt (Keyboards and vocals), Donna Kelly (Drums), Angela Babin (Guitar), Susan Graham (Bass) and Gillian Crane (vocals).

Newly signed with B.T. Puppy records, an independent record label in New York, Housewives on Prozac have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Ladies Home Journal, People, Child, More, Self Magazine, New York Parent and more. The band has also appeared on CNN, Today in New York, The Early Show on CBS and numerous national and local television shows.
