The geeks gather once again for the 2005 edition of O’Reilly Media’s Emerging Technologies Conference. This year’s conference theme is the simple declaration, "Remix."
Taking this to heart is Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, whose presentation this morning described a feature that debuted today on the company’s A9.com search site that lets anybody create their own vertical search options that they can share with all other site sers.
Bezos used as an example the Koders service that searches for open-source code. Simply write a few lines of HTML code, submit it to the site, and the search option is added to the list of available vertical-search options you see when you click the "See More Columns" button on the A9.com home page.
Bezos predicts that there will eventually be thousands of such specialty search options available to A9.com users. According to Bezos, such features mean the "community can remix A9.com."

A bill introduced in the U.S. Senate last week would allow prison time of up to five years and fines of up to $250,000 for people who design fake Web sites for the purposes of stealing money or credit card numbers. The Anti-Phishing Act of 2005, introduced by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), would outlaw "phishing," in which scam artists design Web sites to look like real banking or e-commerce sites, then e-mail spam to people saying they need to re-enter their account or credit card numbers at the bogus site.
