Mozilla said Friday that its Firefox browser had passed the 50 million download mark since its November release. They attribute the popularity of Firefox to their "Spread Firefox" campaign, which is aimed at "wrestling control from a monopoly that has let web technology stagnate".

Microsoft advised IE users to uninstall Netscape 8 from their machines, and said the company is working with Netscape to provide a solution to the issue.
