| Google unveils Calendar Service |

Google on Thursday unveiled a new service at calendar.google.com which will allow users to store their appointments online, and share their appointments and plans with other users. The service is designed to make it easy for users to add entries as per Mr. Carl Sjogreen, product manager for Google Calendar.
The service apparently improves upon a similar functionality which Microsoft had for years in its Outlook application, but to be able to use it, companies had to shell out huge money in terms of setting up and running exchange servers.
Sjogreen says the company added calendars to its arsenal of consumer services because Google users "wanted to see a new approach to calendars. Our mission is to organize the world’s information, and one piece of information people care about a lot is what they’re doing every day."
The service is ad-free, but the company hopes to profit by having users spend more time with Google, where they will see ads on other pages.
"Google’s computers process the information in your calendars to offer you the best possible service, including formatting and displaying the information to you and backing up your calendars’ contents. Google employees will not read your private calendar information," the company says.
Google’s king size email service, Gmail has been modified to identify events mentioned in the incoming mail and to let users add them to their calendar.
People can also search calendars published online, such as local events, or game schedules. They can add those events to their personal calendar without much of a hassle.
