| Google Wallet to Accelerate Online Commerce? |

The announcement by Wall Street Journal that Google is getting ready to jump into online payment service is a big news, and a good news for consumers.
"Exact details of the search company’s planned service are not known. But the knowledgeable people say it could have similarities with PayPal, which allows consumers to pay for purchases on Web sites by funding electronic-payment accounts from their credit cards or checking accounts. Some consumers like PayPal for the security it offers, since it allows them to share their banking or credit-card numbers only with PayPal without having to divulge the information to merchants." read the article published in WSJ.
PayPal has been doing quite well despite hiccups and regular problems with online crooks. We have lost count of all the fake PayPal mails we have received from people trying to get hold of our credit card information. PayPal, of course, never asks for such information through emails, but there are always someone who falls for this trick.
If and when Google starts its so called Wallet service, it will not be limited to shoppers only. Considering the fondness Google has for webmasters, especially its pay per click advertisers and publishers, It would definately extend the service to them for easy transfers and distributing payments. Webmasters would also prefer to have a single system taking care of all their transactions.
With Google Wallet Logo staring visitors on almost every online store which we expect to happen, Google will gain a lot of visibility for its services too. So its both ways, services promoting Google Wallet and vice versa.
Internet users have finally overcome their inhibitions against online shopping and the amount of money generated thorough online trading is enormous. By adding a small fee to each transaction, Google may generate significant revenue. PayPal has proved that this is possible.
Consumers can then use this wallet for paying for services online. We would guess this system also will make it possible to make cheap "micro payments", i.e. payments where the sums are so small that the credit card fee will be larger than the total.
As and when Google Wallet is launced, its going to do good only to the online commerce, in terms of online shopping convenience and competetion to PayPal. Competetion as we know has always been good for any industry and Consumers will also benefit from it.
