Amil Saheb Abdul Qadir, 28, an influential figure of the sect, went missing Thursday while returning to Surat from Mumbai by Ajmer Express.

Qadir was reportedly carrying jewellery and a large amount of cash. His family members lodged a complaint with the railway police late Thursday night.

We are investigating the matter. Prima facie, he seems to be missing rather than kidnapped, Railway police superintendent Noel Parmar told IANS on phone from Vadodara.

Police sources said no ransom had been demanded so far.

Bohras are a small sect of Muslims based largely in Surat, 278 km from here.
